1/27/2014 - 3/9/2014 Hill Country RV Resort

Traveling from Houston to New Braunfels, TX was a pleasant trip.  We made arrangements to meet Steven, Kelly and Jake at a rest area twenty miles from the the campground.  As Jake got out of their car at the rest area (he had no idea we were coming), he said to Steven and Kelly:  "Look Nana and Papa's RV!"  They said let's go see, and what a great surprise for him and us!  After our hugs and greetings, Kelly and Jacob rode with us to the campground.

As you can see, we spent the winter in New Braunfels.  It was fifteen miles from Steve, Kelly and Jacob.  Steve came out to the campground for the  first few days, then his work schedule had him getting  home too late to visit except on weekends.  Kelly and Jake came out often, and if not we went to their house to see them .  The campground had a jumping area and playground which Jake loved.   I think Kelly did too, and she was a great partner for Jake bouncing.  Thank goodness so Nana & Papa didn't have to perfect our bouncing skills!

Jacob also joined a T ball team.  We got to practice with the family before we left.

We also went to Sea World in San Antonio.  It was early in the season, but we all enjoyed the day watching the dolphins, sea lions, and killer whales.  They have a show there which is Jake's favorite-Pets Ahoy.  It features cats, dogs, pigs, mice, ducks, a skunk, and birds.    We saw it a few times but it was always enjoyable.   We had to arrive early to get a center front row seat to get the full effect.

While there we also went to the African Wildlife Safari.  This was near Ciblo, TX.  We rode through a wildlife area in our car, windows down, feeding zebras, various goats, ostriches, antelope, lamas, and cattle.  The giraffes were in a separate fenced area, but most animals were next to us.  The zebras had their heads in Kelly and Jacob window.  A little alarming since the previous sign said the zebras might bite. Luckily Jake was quick to duck his head.

One day while Jake was in school, we drove out to the Canyon Lake area of TX.  It is a very beautiful area and wide open spaces.  We also sampled TX Bar BQ at Rudy's and of course can't pass up Big Papa's Pizza or Mama Margie's Mexican!

Jacob loved his monkey sleeping bag.  He has used it many times since.

All in all a great time spent with family, and we escaped what we were told was a brutal TN winter!!
We left TX March 9th making our way back home!  We were to see Steven, Kelly, and Jake about three weeks later when the long awaited adoption happened, and we welcomed Ainsley Hope Keenan into our family!!!!  Pictures to follow.

1/22/2014 - 1/26/2014 Duson, LA - Houston, TX

We left for Frog City RV Park, Duson, LA http://lafayettervpark.com/ .  We planned to stay two days but the weather delivered an extreme ice storm on the night before we planned to leave.  The ice storm shut down interstate and local highways.  We elected to stay another day vice driving in it.  There were numerous accidents on I-10.

The front of the motor home was covered with 1/4 " thick ice.  Our slides also had 1/4 " ice on the canvas covers.  Since we could not pull our slides in with the ice on the covers, we borrowed a ladder from the campground,  and were able to push the ice off.  When we left for Houston, TX the roads were fine.  There were scattered vehicles as we traveled that had not made it through the ice the previous day.

As we entered Texas, we had a planned stop at the Welcome Center for lunch.  As we parked, the traffic on the interstate came to  a complete stop.  A 5th wheel truck and trailer had wrecked about two miles ahead of us.  The trailer was on its side.  We waited in the rest area for the traffic to move some and eat lunch.  It was a very timely stop.

We arrived at Houston West RV Park,  http://www.hwrvpark.net/   late that day.  Due to the icy slides issue,  we had left about 12:30 PM- later than usual.  The accident added another hour delay.  This was our first ever arrival after dark with the park office closed.  We used our final Kroger Fuel Points in Houston at the last available location heading west.

Our Honda Odyssey had a dead battery when we arrived at Frog City RV park, and when we arrived at Houston West RV Park.  AAA sent a recovery vehicle each time.  The Houston recovery vehicle was a battery expert with the instruments to test the battery.  After the battery test, we replaced the battery. Since we stayed an extra day in Duson, LA we stayed only one night at Houston.
