We had decided to travel almost 400 miles the first day so we could spend an extra day in Greenwood, VA. at Misty Mountain Camping Resort. www.mistymountaincampresort.com/ .
We planned to see some of the Blue Ridge Mountains and Monticello National monument.
Our first day was spent exploring the area, seeing long mountain views of the Shenandoah Valley from the Blue Ridge Mountains. We explored the Appalachian Trail as it went near Waynesboro. VA. Brenda had read several trail journals about the area.
Virginia DOT had a memorial on I-64 for VADOT employees who have been killed while doing their job.
Our second day was spent at the Monticello. We had visited it before, but it has drastically changed. There is a new visitor center and guided tours of the grounds. We spent most of the day there and observed some excavations in progress.
Jefferson Family graveyard. The cemetery is still used for ancestors of Thomas Jeffereson.
Thomas Jefferson Gravestone. He and his wife Martha are buried below stone marker.

We ate lunch at Michie Tavern. It has served people for more than 200 years. The food was delicious. It is ranked highly on Trip Advisory and by Suzanne Baldwin. Suzanne had recommended we eat there when visiting.
We left the area on July 17th heading to our second stop of our six week RV adventure. Bedford, PA and the Flight 93 Memorial about four hours away.
